This is a remix of “THE FRAME” by Wouter, specially adapted for the Apple iPad Pro 11" M4.

The original design was created for the 13-inch model and offers one of the best and most comfortable solutions for drawing. Since I use the 11-inch model (M4), I’ve modified the inlays and dimensions so that the smaller iPad now fits into the frame precisely and like a glove.

Why this frame is great:

  • Perfect ergonomics: The included stand offers a 14-degree tilt—ideal for hours of drawing (e.g., in Procreate) or modeling without neck or wrist pain.
  • Wide hand rest: The wide bezel around the iPad solves the problem of your hand slipping off the edges of the screen while drawing. It feels like working on a large sketchpad (similar to the Sketchboard Pro, but less bulky).
  • Full Access: Precise cutouts for the speakers, the USB-C charging port, and the buttons. The Apple Pencil Pro can still dock and charge on the iPad without any issues.
  • Versatile use: The iPad isn’t clamped in place; instead, it sits securely in the frame thanks to gravity and the precise fit (Caution: Do not hold the frame vertically!). The wide edges also make the frame perfect for use on the couch.

Differences from the Original

Unlike Wouter's original design, my version has permanently attached feet. These not only give the frame extra stability but also ensure a completely flat surface. As a result, the iPad sits perfectly and doesn't wobble while I'm drawing.

Print Parts

Print Settings:

  • Supports: No supports needed! (All chamfers are designed so that they can be printed without overhangs).
  • Brim: Generally not required.
  • Infill: 15–20% (Gyroid is recommended).
  • Walls (Perimeter): At least 3 wall lines for stability. For the inlay parts, I recommend 3 to 4 base layers for a sturdy surface.
  • Build plate: All parts fit on a standard print bed (256 x 256 mm). A textured PEI print bed ensures a great, uniform look for the surfaces (since the visible sides rest on the print bed).
  • Material: PLA works great. If you frequently use the tablet in a warm car or in direct sunlight, you should consider PETG.

Assembly

Except for the feet, everything just snaps together and doesn't need to be glued.

Attaching the Feet

Glue the feet to the underside of the frame using “UHU Hartkunststoff” (or a comparable adhesive). It’s very important that the frame lies completely flat while gluing so that it doesn’t warp and nothing wobbles later on. As shown in the picture, I recommend using screw clamps to press the frame—including the feet—flat against a tabletop. Do not remove the clamps until the adhesive has completely cured.
